How to Find the Perfect Shapewear For Your Wardrobe

I wear

If you’re looking through your closet and considering shapewear, we’ll help you find the best shapewear for your particular wardrobe.

Here are some of our most versatile shapewear pieces that might be the perfect choice for you:

Three models in nude and brown shapewear bodysuits stand against a white wall
  • I dress for business: slacks & dress pants

For your professional wardrobe, try our Everyday Sculpt High Waisted Mid Thigh Shorts. This style gives you mid-level compression across the tummy and down the hips and thighs. If you’d prefer a thong option, try the Seamless Sculpt High-Waisted Thong. This style is a great solution for wearing under suits and dress pants without showing any panty lines. It holds in your core for everyday, all-day shaping and support.

  • I wear casual cropped tops and low rise pants

We know the struggle. SKIMS has developed shapewear you can wear under your jeans that doesn’t show across the tops of your pants. For your outfits that might show a peek of your waist or belly button, use the Shapewear Short. This piece is also reversible, so you can place the dip in the front or the back, while getting mid-level compression for your thighs and butt.

  • I wear plunge dresses

If you love a dramatic plunging neckline, we suggest the Deep Plunge Shapewear Bodysuit. Get cleavage and underwire support along with compression across the tummy, hips, and thighs. This is a great choice for special occasion dresses with deep necklines, and the straps can be adjusted to be worn as strapless, halter, shoulder straps, or cross back.

  • I wear backless and low back tops and dresses

If you’re looking through your favorite wardrobe staples and notice a lot of backless or strappy-backed choices, you’ll want a low back option. Try the Seamless Sculpt Low Back Bodysuit. With strong compression and a thong back, it supports your chest and shapes your tummy.

If you’re looking for more coverage over your butt and hips, try the Low Back Mid Thigh Bodysuit. This sculpting bodysuit has shaping all the way to mid-thigh, so it’s versatile enough for someone who enjoys a wardrobe with open backs while getting a sculpted look.

  • I wear cool camis and strapless dresses

Whether you gravitate to strapless dresses or you love that effortless sundress or light camisole look, you may want a strapless shapewear option. Show off your shoulders with the Seamless Sculpt Strapless Thong Bodysuit, for strong support at your waist and core. If you’re looking for a bit more coverage down to mid-thigh, try our Seamless Sculpt Strapless Shortie Bodysuit.

  • I’m not sure what I need!

Not sure where to begin with our large range of shapewear options? Start with our most viral silhouette with no visible panty lines, the Seamless Sculpt Thong Bodysuit. It’s great for everyday wear with a bit more compression at the waist.

Another option is the Seamless Sculpt Mid Thigh Bodysuit, a shapewear solution that has you covered all the way down to mid-thigh. This piece gives you targeted control along the waist and thighs, plus butt-enhancing pockets for a lifted look.

Tips to finding the right fit

  1. Center front of bra should lay flat against your chest; a gap indicates the cup is too small.
  2. Your band should remain parallel to the ground even when moving arms. Bra movement indicates the band may be too big.
  3. Adjust shoulder straps so they are comfortably snug.
  4. Your breast should fit entirely inside the cup with the underwire supporting. If you have a spillage on the top or the sides, or your cups lift, they may be too small.
  5. If you’re between sizes, size up or down, depending on your preference for a tighter or looser fit.

Bridal Lingerie & Beyond

What to Wear on Your Wedding Night

Somewhere between the venue tour, the dress fitting, and the final seating chart, a quieter question arises: what will you wear at the end of all the party planning? The answer is simple: whatever you want. Most brides spend ten or more hours in their wedding dress, on their feet, surrounded by everyone they love. But when the reception ends, it’s all about you. You might lean toward showstopping wedding night lingerie, or maybe what you really need is something super soft to finally exhale in.

For the Romantic: Bridal Lingerie Sets

If you've been picturing the classic wedding night lingerie moment, this is for you. Bridal lingerie is typically built around soft palettes, delicate detailing, and pieces designed to feel as beautiful as they look.

For the Comfort-First Bride: Luxe Sleepwear and Loungewear

At the end of the night, whether you’re exhausted, happy, or just ready to be cozy, you’re allowed to choose a comfortable wedding night outfit. Wedding night sleepwear is now a luxe way to continue the bridal feel.

There's also a practical bonus: many brides like to wear their wedding night pajamas during their getting ready photos on the morning of, and they also make cute coffee-in-bed shots on the honeymoon—so a good set gets a lot of use.

Slip Dresses and Nightgowns

A bridal slip dress is a middle ground between lingerie and pajamas—effortlessly romantic and elegant, comfortable without being casual. A SKIMS slip dress carries you into the honeymoon and beyond.

Bridal Robes: Getting Ready and Beyond

A good bridal robe is an essential for more than just the big day. Wrap one around you for getting ready, for the moments between ceremony and reception, the first morning of the honeymoon, and the spa afternoon on day three. Robes are one of the most versatile pieces a bride can pack.

Color Guide: Does It Have to Be White?

Nope! The wedding dress is the reason white feels like the default, but your wedding night outfit can be any color that makes you feel like yourself. Here are some bridal color choices:

  • White and ivory: Classic, bridal, and beautifully photogenic against hotel bedding and morning light. A strong choice for getting-ready photos and for brides who want the look to tie directly to the dress.
  • Blush, champagne, and soft pinks: Romantic without the starkness of pure white. These shades flatter across a wide range of skin tones and read as intentionally bridal.
  • Black: Bold, confident, and less traditional. And a great option for a second night or an anniversary piece.
  • Nude and skin-tone: Understated, elegant, and a natural transition from the undergarments worn under the dress all day. Nude reads as quietly luxurious and travels well.
  • Bold colors like red, burgundy, or emerald: For brides who want a statement. There are no rules here. A red lace set or emerald silk slip is a complete and correct answer.

SKIMS carries a variety of colors and shades across intimates and loungewear. When it comes to your wedding day, wedding night, and honeymoon, the best color is the one that makes you feel like yourself.

What to Pack: Wedding Night and Honeymoon by Destination

Where you're going determines what you pack. A few scenarios to plan around:

Wedding Night Prep Tips

A few practical notes that pay off once the day arrives:

  • Try everything on in advance. (Don't save the first fitting for the wedding night!) Move around in it, sit down in it, and confirm the fabric feels as good as it looks.
  • Have it ready and waiting. AKA, pack your wedding night outfit in your hotel bag, not checked luggage, and lay it out before you leave for the ceremony. Rummaging through a suitcase at midnight is not the vibe.
  • Layer your looks. A robe over a slip, or a robe over a set, gives you options across the night and into the next morning.
  • There are no rules. The best wedding night outfit is the one you actually feel good in. A lace set, a pajama set, a cotton tee? All correct.

Wedding Night Gifting: Ideas for the Bride

  • A matching pajama or loungewear set makes a thoughtful bridal shower gift
  • A robe and slip combo works as a complete getting-ready-to-honeymoon package
  • A SKIMS gift card for when sizing or preference is unclear is the most reliable option, and it opens up the full range rather than narrowing it

How to Choose the Right Women’s Knitwear for Your Climate

Match your knit to your climate

Think beyond “summer vs winter.” A cool morning in Arizona feels completely different from a cool morning in London. Use your climate as your first decision filter, then choose silhouettes and colors that match your style.

Comfort in knitwear is really about three things working together: how a fabric handles moisture (does it trap sweat or keep you dry?), how much warmth it holds (can it insulate without bulk?), and how much air can move through it (does your skin get to breathe?).

Models in brown, black and grey bodysuits and knit layers stand together
  • A cream cropped knit top

Dry heat (desert and arid climates)

Think: Phoenix, Madrid, high desert summers. The air is hot, but very dry. Here, your knit should protect your skin from the sun, then let sweat evaporate slowly so you feel naturally cooled.

    • Lightweight cotton or cotton-blend knits
    • Looser, breathable stitches that sit slightly away from the skin
    • Long sleeves or midi lengths for sun coverage

A great option here is a lightweight SKIMS Cotton Jersey long sleeve tee, or a breathable Cotton Rib Long Sleeve Tee, paired with relaxed shorts or a soft midi skirt.

  • Mocha boxer briefs in a close crop

Humid heat (tropical and coastal climates)

Think: Florida, Southeast Asia, New York in August. When humidity is high, sweat can’t evaporate easily, and heavy cotton can feel suffocating. Your priority is ventilation and quick drying.

    • Lightweight, open-knit pieces that let air pass through
    • Superfine, thin wool blends or technical blends designed to wick
    • Silhouettes that skim, not cling

An open-knit or mesh-effect top, like our Sheer Rib t-shirt, layered over any smooth, minimal SKIMS tank keeps your outfit intentional while giving your skin space to breathe.

  • Four models in black fitted dresses

    Wet cold (damp, maritime winters)

Think: Pacific Northwest, UK, coastal winters. Cold plus damp air makes thin cotton sweatshirts feel icy. You need thicker, structured knits that stay warm even when the air is heavy and damp.

    • Wool-rich knits that can absorb some moisture while staying warm
    • Mid-weight sweaters with a bit of loft (not too flat, not too bulky)
    • Easy layering over base layers

Here, a classic Cotton Fleece Crewneck or a wool-blend pullover or cardigan layered over a smooth, moisture-wicking long-sleeve base, like the Fits Everybody Long Sleeve Tee, is ideal.

  • A group of models in white knit sets and robes

    Dry cold (continental winters)

Think: Midwest, interior Canada, mountain towns. You need maximum warmth with minimal bulk so your outfit still feels sleek.

    • Lofty knits with a lot of trapped air (cashmere, alpaca, or brushed wool blends)
    • Ribbed or cable sweater knit textures that feel plush but still drape cleanly
    • Fitted base layers under a warm top

Pair a soft, warm SKIMS Sweater Knit Hoodie or anything Wool Cashmere over a fitted ribbed base top and smoothing leggings for a streamlined, cold-weather uniform.

Why High-Waisted Underwear: Benefits & How to Wear it

Defining the rise

High-waisted underwear has become a staple in women’s wardrobes as a new essential. But why? A high-rise offers more than just coverage—you get all-day comfort that feels like a second skin, effortless smoothing, and perfect confidence.

High-waisted underwear applies to underwear styles with a long rise measurement, typically about 10 to 13 inches from the gusset (that small fabric panel in the crotch) to the top of the waistband. The band should rest at or slightly above your natural waistline—around or just above the belly button.

When to choose it

  • For workwear: Seamless styles that stay invisible under fitted trousers and pencil skirts.
  • For denim: A high-rise brief keeps the waistband from cutting in under high-rise jeans, for a totally smooth and seamless look.
  • For dresses or skirts: Light-smoothing styles help fitted fabric glide without clinging.
  • For travel or hot climates: Modal or light cotton blends are breathable, moisture-wicking, and quick drying.

The anti-rolling toolkit

  • Tall, double-layer waistbands for stability
  • Bonded or heat-sealed edges instead of thick stitching
  • Silicone grippers to gently anchor against the skin

The 2-Minute Fit Test

  • Measure up: Measure your waist (above the hip bone) and hips (fullest part), and compare with the SKIMS Size Guide.
  • Sit/squat test: Move around freely and make sure your waistband doesn’t roll or dig in.
  • Gusset check: It should stay comfortably in place and feel soft against the skin.

Your questions, answered

What is high-waisted underwear?
Underwear with a rise of 10–13 inches, sitting at or above your natural waistline for full coverage and silhouette smoothing.
How do I stop high-waisted underwear from rolling down?
Choose structured waistbands, bonded edges, or silicone grippers. Avoid sizing down, as this just creates pinching and even more rolling.
Is high-waisted underwear the same as shapewear?
No—high-waisted underwear usually refers to lighter women’s briefs made from cotton or modal fabrics, while shapewear compresses and sculpts more firmly—although we do carry high-waisted shapewear underwear.
Does high-waisted underwear help with chafing?
Yes, fuller coverage can act as a barrier between your pants and your skin, reducing friction on the thighs and hips.
How long does high-waisted underwear last?
With proper care, most high-waisted pairs maintain shape and stretch for 6–12 months.
Can I machine wash my high-waisted underwear?
Yes, wash them on cold using the delicate cycle, with gentle detergent and no fabric softener. But always air dry, never machine dry. Heat ruins elasticity.
What’s the best underwear rise for wearing high-rise jeans?
High-waisted briefs match your denim’s waistband height, preventing any cutting into your hip line and creating a seamless look.
Should I size up for comfort?
No—this can create bunching. Choose your true size for the right rise and smooth, secure hold.
